What is the Immobilizer anti-theft system on a VW?
Vw designs are made with an immobilizer anti-theft system that disables the engine. The system is activated when an authorized vital is used to try out to start out the engine. Most designs are also equipped with an alarm system as section of the protection system.
Is there a way to remove the Immobilizer?
Yes, have your ECU chip tuned to remove the immobilizer. It’s written in the ECU and instrument cluster. If it could be easily bypass with a single wire it wouldn’t be a very effective anti theft tool, would it?

Can you get a new key for the immobilizer system?
There are a few different types of Immobilizer systems used in the MK4 and other models which we will cover in another article but these videos should get you going with a new key in most situations. The caveat to that is that there will be some times in which you will just have to delete the Immobilizer system to get new keys to work.
